Meet Kirri from Captured by Kirri

Things you should know about me before we work together …

The Kirri with a camera …

This is the bit where I tell you why I love doing what I do (and I genuinely do, so much happier with a camera in my hands).

When I started photographing, I wanted to do it differently than everyone else. Early on, I found myself drawn to the moments that made me cry – the weddings, the pregnant bellies, the newborns. What I eventually realised is that what I really loved was helping women. Helping a bride calm her nerves before walking down the aisle, helping new mums with wrapping, settling, and breastfeeding.

This passion evolved into something deeper: showing women how beautiful they are, especially those who feel they don't fit typical beauty standards. I see beauty everywhere – in how light hits nature, and in the souls of women. I'm that person who will tell you in the supermarket if I love your hair, your dress, or your boots. I see women and just want to photograph them so I can show them what I see: a stunning woman.

That's it. The more women I can photograph, the more I feel like I'm making women feel beautiful, one gorgeous lady at a time.

And before you ask... no, I don't photograph weddings or newborns anymore. But I'm still happy to chat and give you tips on staying calm on your wedding day, or advice on wrapping, settling, and breastfeeding!

The Kirri without a camera …

I’m very different when I don’t have a camera in my hands.  I’m a mum of three, night owl, Diet Coke lover, and someone who feels far too deeply.  I love discovering new places, always with my photographer’s eye switched on wondering what it would look like with a family or gorgeous woman in it (sorry, can’t turn it off).

I love road trips, pretty light, watching movies and comfort shows over and over again… I can quote every episode of Friends and The Big Bang Theory.

I‘ve lived in Sydney most of my life except for a five-year stint in Orange, NSW.

Mostly, I love deep conversations.  My three values are connection, freedom and integrity.  The best fun I ever have is talking to my besties about real, meaningful things … the conversations that help you understand yourself or life just a little bit more.

I’m a simple girl with simple tastes.  My favourite food is toast with jam or honey!  My favourite sound is my father laughing at something my kids have done (a crackling fire or waves crashing are good second options), and my favourite place is my bed with my kids, watching something together, and the conversation that follow.

Simple.

Ready to work together?

On a personal note …

I have watched my brother-in-law lose his battle to cancer with three very young children and an adoring wife (my sister) left behind. I have also watched my mother’s greatest fear of losing her memory to Alzheimers become a reality, and to lose her a few years ago as well. When a loved one is lost, the only thing we have left is photos. When they are gone, no one ever thinks they have too many photos of the person.

I see women not want to get in photos with their kids as they don’t like the way they look (hey, I’m one of them). But I also know that children don’t see that, they see the mother they adore and there will never be enough photos with her.

Please get in photos.

They don’t have to be taken by me, but if you are nervous and don’t like how you look, I can teach you some really simple ways to be happy with photos of you. You will never be as young as you are right now. Get in the photos. Please.
