Family Photoshoot Locations

Happy kids, autumn at a park with gorgeous colour …. just add bubbles and you get magic!

Sun Shoot Locations have a few factors to consider when choosing your setting.

Your location has a few things that need to be factored in:

  • The Season

  • Beach or Park or Urban

  • Sunrise and Sunset times

  • Keeping kids happy in regards to

    • Witching Hour

    • Feeding Times

    • Nap Times

Generally, you only have a professional photo shoot every couple of years. I really want you to have the best result, so I encourage you to choose the best possible photographic outcome for your shoot over a sleep in.

Things like getting up early for a sunrise shoot can be challenging. But trust me, the light, the location and the resulting images are completely worth it!

The Season

What is your favourite season? Here are some things to consider in regards to you location based on the seasons:

Summer

  • You hear summer, you think beach. Beach shoots are lovely for summer.

  • Early morning is best before it gets too hot.

Autumn

  • Parks with changing colours are best.

  • The Blue Mountains has some amazing gardens for autumn colours.

  • You can shoot later mornings or mid afternoon.

Winter

  • The light is gorgeous during winter and you can shoot later in the morning.

  • Great locations for winter include historic houses, especially in the Blue Mountains where there are fires you can sit in front of.

  • Bring lots of extra clothes eg jackets, beanies etc.

Spring

  • This is where you get gorgeous blossoms. Different blossoms come out at different times. Parks with blossoms are stunning, including some beautiful gardens in the Blue Mountains that open for the season.

  • You can shoot later mornings or mid afternoon.

Golden Hour

The best time for natural lighting is either two hours before sunset or up to four hours after sunrise.

Keeping Kids Happy

WITCHING HOUR

Every child has a time of day where they lose it. I generally find kids are happier in the mornings. By the afternoon, the days activities can make kids out of balance, parents too. If you are aware of your children's witching hours, lets avoid those times!

AFTER A MEAL

Make sure children (and adults!) are well-fed before the photoshoot. If they’re hungry, they might start to get a little antsy and cranky. If you’re planning on going out for food after the photoshoot, give your kids a healthy snack before the session and pack along a few extra snacks just in case.

WHENEVER YOUR KIDS ARE WELL-RESTED

Nothing makes kids grouchy and uncooperative like being tired. Be sure that your family photoshoot doesn’t interrupt any of your kids’ naptime or bedtime routines.
