Hanging Frames in Your House

You know how they say plumbers have the worst plumbing at home? Well, photographers often don't have great photos of their kids or if they do, they never get around to putting any up!  This is me.  I preach to people all the time about hanging photos, that if you have an image and it isn't in print, does it even exist?  We know that digital formats are changing so fast that what we have today will be obsolete in a few years. But I don't practice what I preach!!

I come from a photographic family.  My father won awards at the local camera club, and my mother had a business restoring photos.  I grew up with a dark room in the house and spent many hours in there with  my mum.  They value photos.  We had professional shoots every couple of years, and we have photos hanging around the house of these (as embarrassed as I am of them!).

Don't get me wrong, I have photos up.  They are in small frames, on a table, or acrylic blocks sitting next to my TV. They are of my children.  I got a little rack thing a few years ago and I printed some photos from my phone and pegged them to the rack, again of my kids.  When my mum passed away in November 2020, I added to it, photos from my sister's wedding with my sister, mum and dad.  So precious. 

I have lots of walls, but I haven't hung anything "special" up.  Is it because I can't decide what to put up?  Maybe.  Do I worry about updating it in the future? That may be it too.

This year, for my birthday I decided to fix this.  I asked for frames for my birthday. I was going to do my room and my kids rooms, but it became a big project, and I decided to start on my room.  I have been overseas with my Dad in 2017 and 2019, and have some images I just love.  So I decided to make my room about those. I make books of my trips last lockdown.  But this was time to take it up a notch.  I have written on each print where it was taken, and what year. 

I am going to print photos of my kids and put them in their rumpus room, and I will put photos of them up in their rooms, but I needed somewhere to start.  And I love it!!

You will notice there is nothing above my bed.  I have booked my own photoshoot for me and my kids in April, and I waiting for a photo of me and my kids, as a panoramic that I can hang there, pride of place.  But, this is what I have done so far.

You can see the images I have hung in my bedroom, pluas some of the previous images that are already around the house, from when my kids were young, to even whenI was a baby!
