What to bring to your family session …
You’ve organised the family, picked the outfits, and booked the session — now it’s time to make sure you have everything you might need on the day!
Family sessions are all about capturing real moments and having fun together, but a little preparation can make a big difference. Here’s a simple guide to what to bring along for your session:
Essentials to Pack
🧥 Extra Jackets or Coats
Even if the weather looks good, bring extra jackets or coats — especially for the kids. Not only do they keep everyone warm if the temperature drops, but they also make a super easy way to switch up your look without the hassle of a full outfit change!
Quick tip: I do NOT recommend bringing full outfit changes. Trying to change kids mid-session is the fastest way to lose their good mood and cooperation. Let’s keep it simple and stress-free.
🧸 Favourite Toy
If your child has a much-loved toy or comfort item, bring it along. We might even include it in a few shots — these sentimental touches are so special to look back on later. And if they get a little tired or shy, having something familiar helps them relax.
🕶️ Sunglasses
Bring sunglasses for everyone! We can grab a few fun, cool shots with them on — it’s a relaxed, playful way to add personality to your gallery.
🍎 Snacks and Drinks
For younger kids (and honestly, for adults too!) a few snacks and water bottles are a must. Keep snacks dry, tidy, and easy (think crackers, dried fruit, etc) — nothing messy like chocolate or anything that will stain their clothes or mouths.
🧻 Wet Wipes and Tissues
Runny noses, sticky fingers, unexpected spills — wet wipes and tissues are a lifesaver. Trust me, you’ll be glad you have them!
🎩 Cool Hats or Headbands
Accessories like cool hats, beanies, or headbands can add a lot of fun and variety to your photos. If you love a boho or relaxed vibe, bringing a hat can be an awesome option!
A Few More Things to Know
Phones, wallets, and keys:
When you arrive, I’ll ask everyone to put their phones, wallets, and keys into a bag — not in pockets! They can create strange, bulky shapes in photos that are hard to edit out. It’s much easier to store them safely out of sight.I bring a wagon!
If the location is flat, I’ll have my wagon with me. It’s perfect for tossing bags, jackets, and anything else we don't want to carry around during the session.I also bring bubbles!
Bubbles are magical for little kids (and honestly, the bigger kids love them too). They help make the session fun and relaxed — and they photograph beautifully!Optional: Balloons
If you want to bring along some balloons for a pop of colour and extra fun, go for it! Bright balloons can make the session feel even more playful and vibrant.
Final Thought
The most important thing you can bring to your family session?
A relaxed attitude and a sense of fun.
The more relaxed you are, the more your kids will be too — and that’s where the real magic happens.
I can't wait to capture your beautiful family just as you are! 🤍
