When a client finds the location, I get to have all the fun
There's a particular kind of excitement I feel when a client says, "I know just the spot."
Because more often than not… they're right.
That's exactly how this session went. My client had a location in mind, somewhere that she went to all the time, and I trusted her on it. But nothing quite prepared me for the moment I actually arrived.
So many possibilities
The second I got there, my brain lit up.
Everywhere I looked, I was seeing another angle. Another backdrop. Another little pocket of the place that would make a beautiful frame. Textures, corners, lines, spaces to move through… it was one of those locations that just keeps giving.
This is the part of my job I genuinely love. That creative buzz of walking into somewhere new and seeing a dozen images before we've even begun. Left to my own devices I tend to return to the same trusted spots — but when a client brings me somewhere fresh, it wakes up a whole different part of my brain. It keeps the work exciting, and it makes for photos I couldn't have planned in advance.
And then the light showed up
As if the location wasn't giving me enough to work with… the afternoon light was extraordinary.
Soft, warm, golden — the kind of light you can't schedule and can't fake. It wrapped around everything and made even the simplest spot look like something out of a magazine.
When you put a beautiful location, gorgeous light, and a relaxed client together, something clicks. The images almost make themselves. And honestly? I had an absolute ball. There's nothing better than that feeling of being fully in it — creative, playful, completely absorbed in what I'm making.
The best part
My client walked away with a set of branding images she loves. Photos that feel like her, made in a place that means something to her, in light that flattered her without her having to do a single thing differently.
That's what a great personal branding session should feel like. Not stiff. Not staged. Not something you endure and hope for the best. It should feel like a genuinely good afternoon… that just happens to end with images you're proud to put your name beside.
And when the client is the one who picks the spot? Even better. You know yourself. You know the places that feel like you. My job is simply to show up, see the possibilities, and catch the magic when the light rolls in.
